Craigslist Tips for Sellers (or a rant)

I am slowly slipping back into my obsession with Craigslist. Not good y'all.  Not. Good.

I've been checking certain categories hourly daily.  I know my Craigslist people. I know how to sell. I know how to buy. So I thought I would list some tips for you guys interested in selling items on Craigslist.

1. Price accordingly-

Just because you paid an arm and a leg for it doesn't mean we will. No used metal rocking chair is worth that price.  And really, you want $875 for a USED CHAIR?  Did Oprah happen to sit in it? Yeah, didn't think so...

2. Include a price-

Most of the time if someone can't bother including a price in their listing, I can't be bothered by calling. How hard is it to type "Green Sofa $100?"

3. Include pictures-
Yeah, even with your stunning descriptions ( insert sarcasm) I want to see pictures. NOW. Not 6 hours from now, when you finally email me back. And I have to say "sorry, I bought something else that I actually SAW and liked."

4. Make sure your pictures are posted in the right direction-

Thank you so much for posting those great pics. While I was holding my computer upside down, I got a good glimpse of the dresser right before my computer slipped out of my hands and the screen cracked.

5. Make sure your pictures aren't blurry messes-

I can't even tell what the first set of pictures is, so why in the world would I pay $80 for it? As for the second set, wow. I want to rush right over and buy that couch/love seat right away!! NOT.

6. Make sure your pictures are the right size-

Believe it or not, this image is enlarged. I want to be able to see the piece of furniture I'm interested in, without squinting. Or using a magnifying glass.

7. Give a detailed description of the item your selling-

Great, your selling a dresser that has 6 drawers and was made by Ethan Allen. That really helps make up my mind. Who cares if I don't know the color, dimensions, price, style, etc.....

8. Include your contact information-

If you want someone to pick up something that you left on your curb, hows about you actually give some kind of clue as to where that curb is? GPS Coordinates, major cross streets...something!

9. CLEAN the item you posted-

If whatever you are selling can be wiped off, dusted, washed, spot treated, do it BEFORE you post pictures!  I promise you will sell it a heck of a lot sooner if it doesn't look like someone had an accident all over your seat cushion right before you took your picture.

10. Do not include your pets in the picture OR CREEPY DOLLS!-

No matter how much I love animals, I do not want to see them laying on a piece of furniture I might want to buy.  It doesn't make me think your couch is any cuter.  It only makes me think I might be buying some dog's giant bed to put in my living room.  Do I even need to explain the creepy arse doll?

11.  List your item in the right category-

Obviously I am not looking for a car auction this week when I scouring through the furniture section!

12. Make sure the price listed in the title matches the one in your description-

This bugs me to no end! If you are selling the crib for $100 put that in the title of your post! Do not get me excited about a $1 crib and then tick me off because you're really asking $100. Waste of my time...

13.  Include your location in the post-
Hello?? It's a yard sale. I am not going to call for directions. Just post your address so I can add it to my long list of places to go that day.

14. Sometimes you just need to donate it or put it in the free section-

Ummm, there is a reason why you are trying to get rid of these things. I say cut your losses and donate them A.S.A.P.

How about you guys, Do you have any tips you want to add?

I am an upside down photo poster. I take photo with iPhone and email it or transfer it from my MacBook to Craigs List, and somehow it is upside down. I would fix it if I could. It is NOT intentional.
