So I kept my little secret, or tried to, the best I could. And finally, today I get to blog about it from the rooftops! Er, my bedroom.
Months ago, I read about this contest, called Restore My Décor, on the Dutch Boy Paints website. I took a chance, uploaded some pictures of our room, and wrote about how much I disliked our room, and what I wish we could change. In November, right before Thanksgiving, I got an email saying I was the grand prize winner, and had just won a room makeover!! Awesome right?
So these past two weeks, we’ve been been getting work done on our room, and living with all the dirt and dust that go along with any house renovation. With the budget given for the room makeover, we talked to the designer, Danielle Hirsch, and were given the go ahead to hire people to knock out the fireplace in our bedroom, fix the hole in the floor and the hole in the roof, and seal up one of the doorways that opened into the kitchen.
So here is our room before and after:
See the fireplace? Yeah, that’s gone.
After the fireplace was knocked out and the hole in the roof was fixed, my uncle and a friend of his came and fixed the floor, and framed out the closet for us.
My uncle and his friend were also hired to seal up one of the doorways leading from our bedroom into the kitchen.
We’re still getting used to not being able to walk into our room from that direction, but sealing it up did make the room feel so much bigger. It created more wall space, and made the room much more private.
And here is another picture of what our room and bed looked like before the makeover.
And now, the AFTERS!!!
See, the wall is all sealed up!
Love the chair colors!
And the bed is killer! I still can’t believe it’s our bed. I feel like it’s something we would only see on TV. It’s upholstered in a light gray microfiber, with chrome nail head trim. Sometimes I catch myself rubbing it like a pet. Don’t judge! I’ve never owned anything as nice as this bed.
Justin and I feel seriously blessed to have won the makeover from Dutch Boy Paints, and for all the work that was done by Danielle, and Kris(who was in charge of the whole campaign).
My to-do/wish list for our bedroom is now almost completed, and it feels so good to be that close to having a room of our dreams. All that’s left for Justin and I to do is buy a door for our bedroom and work on the closet. We need to save up for some kind of flooring to put in there, install some closet racks and maybe some shelves. And we also need to paint the inside of the closet, the trim around the closet and the closet doors. It’s a good thing I have my painting skills down, right? I was able to paint the baseboards the other night, so I just got to find a little bit of time to work on painting and fixing everything else. But when it’s all done, I will have the closet and room that I’ve always wanted!
Hope you guys love the room. If you have any questions about it, or some of the things in the room just ask! And thanks so much for coming by and reading about our room makeover! Linking to:

Love that bed, too!! Congrats on being chosen. We had an opening from our bedroom into our kitchen. We closed it off and also built a closet.
