Baked Penne with Philadelphia Cooking Creme

Thank you to Kraft Foods for offering me the opportunity to recreate a recipe with PHILADELPHIA Cooking Creme. Please click here to learn more about all the PHILADELPHIA Cooking Creme flavors and recipes.

Hey everyone. I was really excited that I got chosen to try out one of the flavors of Philadelphia Cooking Creme. I’ve been wanting to try the Cooking Creme for the longest time, or at least since I saw the commercials for it, months ago.

I was chosen to recreate Baked Penne, a recipe from Kraft.  After reading the ingredient list, I knew this recipe would be a hit. It had some of my family’s favorite things: pasta, cheese, and a yummy sauce.  Now the recipe for the Baked Penne from Kraft calls for a 1/2 pound of ground beef, but we substituted the ground beef with ground turkey. Nothing wrong with ground beef, our family just prefers ground turkey.

I added ground turkey, chopped onion, and chopped green bell peppers to a nonstick skillet and cooked them all together.  I used my own homemade pasta sauce, but you could easily use your favorite jarred sauce too… Once the meat was cooked and browned, I added my pasta sauce to the pan.

And 3/4 of a cup of the Philadelphia Cooking Creme, Italian Cheese and Herb flavor.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first opened the Cooking Creme, but I loved that it was so easy to blend in and was seasoned really well.  It was great having that extra burst of flavor to add in. Nice and creamy.

After I mixed in the sauce and the Cooking Creme, I added 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. I stirred it in and cooked it for a few minutes until it was all melted.

Then I poured in the cooked penne and mixed it all together. I chose to use a whole grain penne, but you could use a number of pastas with this recipe.

After mixing it together it was time to pour it our oven proof baking dish…
and cover it with the rest of the shredded mozzarella.

I baked it for 20 minutes in the oven, set at 350 degrees.  When it came out, I barely had time to take my pictures before my kids were climbing onto the table, yelling “PASTA! PASTA!” And my husband grabbed a bowl and fork right away.
It’s so great that with this recipe you can tailor it to your family’s taste. You can use ground turkey or Italian sausage instead of ground beef, or you can pick your favorite sauce (tomato and basil, tomato and roasted garlic, or you can make your own like I did).

Baked Penne with Beef

Brown meat with vegetables in large nonstick skillet. Stir in spaghetti sauce, 3/4 cup cooking creme and 1/2 cup mozzarella: cook and stir 2 to 3 min. or until mozzarella is melted. Add pasta; mix lightly.
Spoon into 2-qt. casserole; top with remaining cooking creme and mozzarella. Cover.
Bake 20 min. or until heated through, uncovering after 15 min.

These are the meals I like to make, meals that my husband and kids are actually excited about eating.  Pair this Baked Penne with a salad or a side of mixed and seasoned vegetables and you can have a delicious dinner. One that your family will be running to the table to eat. (Just like mine was.)
